A basic introduction to paddling skills through experimentation and games. This traiing camp focuses on the key skills that a young paddler needs to learn. It includes basic skills such as forward and backwards paddling, turning around, and safely capsizing. The children will be working through the skills required to achieve the Paddlepower Passport levels 1-3. With plenty of time on the water, the children will have enough skill to go confidently on to the next level if they want to progress quickly.
Compact Course Option: The beginner course (BC Paddlepower Passport 1-3) is also available as a compact course run over two mornings (09:30-13:30) at the cost of £120. This is the pre-requisite for membership to Saturday Club which the best option for further develop of your child's skills. See the drop down menu further below for dates.
This two day camp aims to get children to the BC Paddlepower passport level 4-5. We develop paddling skills through experimentation and games. With plenty of time on the water this training camp provides gentle skills development, and is orientated around a variety of games and fun exercises. Students develop their existing paddling skills are are introduced to basic support strokes and paddling further distances. This camp brings the student up to the equivalent of the adult 1 star award.
Compact Course Option: Short compact course options are available - gain Paddlepower Passport Level 4-5 over two short days (4 hours each day) from 09:30-13:30) £120. This course can be booked as a Compact Course from the drop down menu further down the page.
This four day camp guarantees to give your child plenty of time on the water as well as getting them all the way to Stages 5 of the British Canoeing paddlepower passport. This camp package can be completed as a four day camp from Monday to Thursday in one week, or over two consecutive weeks. It is only currently possible to book the four consecutive days online. If you wish to book the package over two consecutive weeks please call the centre.
Compact Course Packages The Paddlepower passport levels 1-5 can be undertaken as a compact course package that runs for four half days (09:30-13:30). We cannot guarantee that all five levels will be achieved. Children will be taken as far as their ability and experience allow. Cost £210
This two day camp introduces more advanced skills through experimentation and a variety of games and fun exercises as they begin to work through the Paddlepower Discovery syllabus. This course develops students' existing paddling skills and introduces support strokes; the basic elements of kayaking/canoeing it covers launching, paddling forwards and backwards, safe capsizing and a variety of useful paddle strokes.
Compact Course Option: Short compact course options are available - gain Paddlepower 6-7 over two short days (4 hours each day) from 09:30-13:30) £120
This camp teaches improved paddle strokes, more advanced capsize technique and methods of rescue. Again with plenty of time for theory this course really seeks to provide the student with a good grounding for moving water skills. It is the equivalent of a BCU 2 Star.
Compact Course Option: A short compact course options for the Discovery Level 8-9 is available over two short days (4 hours each day) from 09:30-13:30) however, we do not over certfication on this option. £120
Juniors' Saturday Club - once qualified in a sport (RYA, BCU), juniors can become members and attend the Juniors Club that is held every Saturday morning between 9.30 and 11.30am. Junior Club is a great way for kids to start the weekend and meet other enthusiasts in their sport. Membership fees are minimal and Junior Club attendees receive use of all equipment at reduced costs and can practice under the careful supervision of qualified instructors. Please ask the team for membership details and rates - starts March.
Our BC Start Kayaking/Canoeing Course has been created to provide you with an introduction to a range of paddling skills both for closed cockpit kayaks and open canoeing. We'll get you on the water using some of the latest equipment and the most up to date BCU coaching techniques. You'll discover the fundamentals of paddling that are both fun and challenging. For further information check out the adult paddlesports scheme programme. Upon completion this course allows the student to hire equipment with parental/guardian permission, where you will be able to further develop your skills.

Our BC 2 Star is a training course that covers and develops the basic strokes and techniques on flat water. It is designed for people who have completed the BC 1 Star course, spent a minimum of five hours practicing but want to further their skills and knowledge. Again using a range of equipment including open canoes and closed cockpit kayaks, the emphasis is on creating the desired movement of the boat through developing an understanding of cause and effect rather than concentrating on rigidly defined strokes. This course really helps develop your paddling experience and confidence. Solo performance at 2 Star level is required for attending a course for the qualification of Level 1 Coach.
