RYA Start Dinghy Sailing – Level 1

This introduction to dinghy sailing – RYA Start Dinghy Sailing Course – has been created specifically for those of you that are new to the sport of dinghy sailing. The course is designed to get you on the water using modern, single-handed dinghies, and using RYA coaching techniques. All our boats are semi-rigged on the water and ready to sail to make your learning experience smooth and fast.

Two sessions will see you learn to sail single-handed dinghies and will allow you to confidently rig your boat, control power and direction, tack and gybe through the wind to move yourself around the lake, and perform a capsize drill. Alongside the numerous practical skills there will be a range of background knowledge covered during the course to give you everything you need to “Start Dinghy Sailing”.

The aim is to equip you with a variety of skills and theory to enable you to sail competently around a triangular course. Plenty of time is spent helming your boat under the careful guidance of our instructors. At the end of the course you will also receive 2 hours of supervised time on the water to be booked in at your own convenience, to really help you consolidate your skills.
